Matcha Latte Recipe

Matcha lattes are a delightful way to enjoy the vibrant flavors and health benefits of matcha combined with the creamy richness of milk. Whether you prefer your latte hot or iced, this recipe will guide you through the simple steps to create a delicious matcha latte at home.

Ingredients and Tools

  • Matcha powder (1 teaspoon or 2g)
  • Water (1.5oz/45ml at 160°F/70°C)
  • Sugar or sweetener (optional)
  • Milk (8oz/240ml)
  • Chawan (matcha bowl)
  • Chasen (bamboo whisk)
  • Small pot or microwave for heating milk
  • Cup for serving
  • Ice (optional for iced latte)

Step-by-Step Preparation

1. Prepare the Matcha

Start by preparing your matcha. Sift 1 teaspoon (2g) of matcha powder into a bowl to remove any clumps and ensure a smooth consistency. Add 1.5oz/45ml of water at 160°F/70°C to the matcha powder. Using a chasen, whisk the mixture until it is fully blended and smooth.

2. Sweeten the Matcha (Optional)

If you prefer a sweeter latte, add sugar or sweetener to taste at this stage. Stir well to ensure the sweetener is fully dissolved into the matcha mixture.

3. Heat the Milk

For a hot matcha latte, heat 8oz/240ml of milk in a small pot on the stove or in the microwave until it reaches your desired temperature. Be careful not to boil the milk. For an iced matcha latte, use cold milk and skip the heating step.

4. Combine Matcha and Milk

Pour the prepared matcha mixture into a cup. Slowly add the heated milk, stirring continuously to mix well. If making an iced latte, fill a glass with ice before adding the cold milk and matcha mixture. Stir until the matcha is evenly distributed throughout the milk.

5. Enjoy Your Matcha Latte

Your matcha latte is now ready to be enjoyed. Take a moment to appreciate the vibrant green color and creamy texture. Whether you’re sipping it hot or cold, your matcha latte will provide a refreshing and energizing experience.
